Consume Me dev Jenny Jiao Hsia rejects glow-up culture

It’s no coincidence that Hsia encountered "looksmaxxing" content while promoting the game.

Before releasing autobiographical game Consume Me, Jenny Jiao Hsia had never heard of the now infamous “looksmaxxer” Clavicular. Recently Hsia, who posts daily TikToks to promote her game, started to notice him appearing more and more in her feed. “I remember watching some clips of him,” she said. “I'm like, wait a second, it actually feels kind of similar to Consume Me.”

In 2025, developers Hsia and AP Thompson released Consume Me, a funny, insightful, and very goal-oriented life sim that echoed Hsia’s own experiences growing up. It follows a high schooler named Jenny whose goal is to lose weight, get good grades, and find love. Players help Jenny sort out her life through mini-games, whether it’s playing Tetris-like puzzles with food to maintain her calorie goals, applying makeup within a time limit, or stretching her Gumby-like body to hit yoga poses. It’s self-improvement by way of checklist, where perfection seems attainable if you can just stick to a plan.
