How do you get over your attachment to characters when a game ends?

Dear Mother,

How do you get over attachment to video game characters? I have interacted with countless characters over the years, many with great writing, interesting personalities, and even voice acting. Very occasionally, there will be certain characters where all of these click and result in such a profound emotional and physical connection that the game coming to an end almost feels like grief. There is an emptiness and sense of loss that I don't know how to fill, however weird that may sound.

Kind regards,
Old gamer
